This year Belgium donated 15 million euros to The Global Fund, an organization dedicated to the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. As a loyal donor Belgium helps the successful fight against these three diseases.

The Global Fund thanked Belgium for the support. Through this partnership, 11 million people have been granted access to antiretroviral therapy, 17.4 million cases of tuberculosis have been identified and treated and over 795 million nets treated with insecticides have been distributed, said The Global Fund. Overall, The Global Fund saved 20 million lives and the number of deaths in the affected countries has fallen by more than a third since 2002.

The organization emphasizes that the ongoing support of Belgium and the other donors is crucial to make a difference. The Global Fund plans to create sustainable systems that are accessible to all sections of the population in the future.
