She decides on stage
The following artists were among the participants to the Global Citizen Festival organized in the German city of Hamburg on 6 July: Coldplay, Shakira, Ellie Goulding and … Alexander De Croo.
For this edition, the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shared the stage with the ambassadors of She Decides: Dutch minister Liliane Ploumen and our minister of Development Cooperation Alexander De Croo.
At a stone’s throw from the G20, they were given the opportunity to plead for sexual rights for women and girls, in the company of Chris Martin and Pharrell Williams. Minister De Croo’s message was well received: ‘More than 200 million women are in danger today because they have no access to contraception. If we can solve that problem, we can save the lives of 2.5 million mothers and babies.’ In front of an interested audience, he outlined the Belgian efforts: ‘Belgium invests 64 million euros in the UN Population Fund, UNAIDS and UN Women. Every girl and every woman must be able to decide when she wants to have children and how many. Let’s make that happen. Together!’

Each year, Global Citizen organizes the festival and invites the greatest international stars in order to convey their message for a better world to everyone. Global Citizen is a social action platform for a generation that is willing to address the biggest challenges on a global level. This community, which is committed to social change, wants to eradicate extreme poverty by 2030. Their worldwide actions are part of the UN Agenda for sustainable development.
When will there be a Brussels edition of the Global Citizen Festival?
